Ochre v

Furthermore, the moment may be emblazoned

To honor mysteries

beyond plot or intention.

The horses thunder past two roaring lions.

The artist, we know, sketched quickly, & blended

All four figures to a blurred kinetic fusion.

Both inside & outside the bellies of the lions,

The horses may already be prey.

                                                    Or like two fast freights

Horse & lion rattle down their parallel tracks

Each to its own insistent destination. Nothing random,

Yet nothing to assuage our questions or our longing—

Which is one definition of myth. Deliver us from our abjection

O Lords of Spirit Realm & Hunting Magic.

We are but charcoal, ink & pixel before Thy

Manifold unspeakability.

May our hands be nimble & steady.
