A Conversation with Stanley Plumly

On October 12, 2012, the poet Stanley Plumly sat down with VCU students and faculty for a conversation on poetic craft, centering on work from his most recent book, Orphan Hours (W.W. Norton & Co., 2012).

Plumly is introduced by poet and VCU professor David Wojahn, after which the conversation is opened up for questions from graduate students in the VCU MFA program as well as members of the creative writing faculty.

The conversation was part of the Virginia Commonwealth University Visiting Writers Series, which is cosponsored by The Department of English and the Graduate Writers Association.

Stanley Plumly

Stanley Plumly is the author of eight collections of poetry, including Orphan Hours (W.W. Norton & Co., 2012), and Old Heart (W.W. Norton & Co., 2007) which won the 2007 Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the 2008 Paterson Poetry Prize, and was a finalist for the 2007 National Book Award. He is the author of two books of nonfiction, including Posthumous Keats: A Personal Biography (W.W. Norton & Co., 2008), which was runner-up for the 2009 PEN/Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award for Biography. In 2010 he was elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
