Lee Smith’s latest novel, On Agate Hill , was published in 2006 by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill. She is the author of three collections of short stories and nine novels including, Oral History (1983) , Fair and Tender Ladies (1988), The Devil’s Dream (1992), and Saving Grace (1995), all from Putnam. The Last Girls (Algonquin, 2002) was a New York Times bestseller as well as co-winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award. She is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers and the recipient of an Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1999. Smith is a graduate of St. Catherine’s School and Hollins College. She lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
