1 piece in the archiveKevin Powers is the author of two works from Little, Brown and Company: the multiple award-winning novel The Yellow Birds (2012) and the poetry collection Letter Composed During a Lull in the Fighting (2014). His work has been published in New Orleans Review , cream city review , Poetry , The New York Quarterly , Witness , The Sun , Diode , and Hayden’s Ferry Review . Powers joined the army at the age of seventeen, and served as a machine gunner in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq in 2004 and 2005. He enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University after his honorable discharge and graduated in 2008 with a BA in English.
